Save our Chimpanzees - Stunning Sanctuary!
In literacy, we are learning about the impact that humans can have on wild animals. This week we have been looking at and reading about Chimpanzees. These amazing animals are critically endangered. They are being hunted for meat, their habitats are being demolished for buildings and housing, and they are being infected with various human diseases that they can not survive - even a simple human cold. A couple in Liberia have made it their mission to save Chimpanzees that have been orphaned or sold as pets. They are raising funds to create an island sanctuary that will be safe from poachers and will give the Chimpanzees the best chance to live a normal life. As well as this, they aim to educate them and teach them how to survive - this means teaching them to climb, hunt for food, build nests and recognize dangers.
We have researched what would be ideal living conditions and our task this week was to create our own Chimpanzee Sanctuary on Minecraft Education. I have included it
in my sanctuary (fill in the gap here with all you have included eg fruit trees).
(Include images here of your sanctuary)
I have found this week really interesting. It amazes me how the Chimpanzees are so much like humans. but these animals have been hunted so much that they are now critically endangered.
The reading we did to help with our research, was from Epic.com. We read two books - Chimpanzee and Endangered Chimpanzee. We also watched snippets from a documentary called “Baby Chimp Rescue” on TVNZ on Demand.
Have you ever thought about how you can help protect these and other endangered animals?

name measuring
Today in maths we had to draw our names and measure them with a protractor. Most of my angles are acute but some right and some straight. There were 12 angles in my name. Do you know how many angles are in your name?
